The IMH, Machine Tool Institute is a centre for Innovative Technological Training that serves the industrial sector and community through technical training, as well as by promoting technology.

In 1986 a group of professionals in education started this project, who, after securing support from businesses and institutions from the Basque Country, founded the Foundation for Technical Training in Machine Tools. The IMH was inaugurated in 1991 in Elgoibar.

As a public centre for Professional Training that is associated with the Basque Government, IMH belongs to the Ikaslan Gipuzkoa R5 network, which develops advanced management and organisational of educational centres.

The IMH as an integral part of the AFM Group is responsible for training the machine tool sector. The AFM Group is made up of AFM, the association of machine tool manufacturers, that is responsible to coordinate and provide different services to the sector, INVEMA, Foundation for Research in Machine Tool, and Proschools, Consortium for the Exportation of equipment for Training Centres.
